EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Most Holy Redeemer parishioners gathered for a special Mass on Sunday to celebrate the 100th birthday of Father Albert Adamich, who was born May 15, 1922.

Ordained in 1948, Father Al is the oldest and longest serving priest in the Archdiocese of Chicago. He recently celebrated the 74th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood this month

Father Al has been at Most Holy Redeemer since 1992 and is well known for helping to keep the parish running smoothly. He spent his birthday celebrating Mass. Parishioners celebrated his centennial mark with a cake reception after Mass. Cardinal Blase Cupich also called Father Al to wish him a happy birthday.

“Father Al has been one of the most faith-filled examples of hard work and kindness for each of our parishioners since he arrived here nearly 30 years ago in July 1992,” the parish said in a written statement. “Though listed in our staff directory as a retired resident, all of MHR knows that Father Al is anything but retired. Father Al is so very devoted to his priestly vocation and our Parish community.”

“He has been well known for his years of raking leaves and shoveling snow outside the church. Inside, he’s helped out in the rectory office, attended many events, and helped administer sacraments to our parishioners. He has celebrated and con-celebrated weekday Masses, weekend Masses, and funerals. He’s never shied away from any work that has needed doing, and has done everything with a smile and positive outlook–inspiring our staff and parishioners to do the same. MHR remains grateful for all that he has done and continues to do to make our Parish so vibrant.”

It’s not too late to wish Fr. Al a happy 100th birthday. Send him a card at:
