The future of the Miami Heat may be in question but one thing is certain: they have one of the best coaches in the league.

Erik Spoelstra is consistently considered the best of the best, especially among league general managers.

A new poll of league GMs, shared by NBACentral, voted Spoelstra as the best head coach in the association.

He earned 69% of the vote, followed by Mark Daigneault of the Oklahoma City Thunder with 17%, and Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors with 7%.

This isn’t the first time Spoelstra has earned such an honor and he was actually voted the best coach prior to last season too.

It’s easy to see why Spoelstra is held in such high regard.

He first joined the Heat back in 1997 as an assistant coach and hasn’t left since.

In 2008, he was given the keys to the kingdom and became the head coach.

Just a few years later, the Heat were the Eastern Conference champions and then they won back-to-back titles.

They haven’t reached that same level of success since but they have consistently made noise in the East.

They have been counted out again and again but Spoelstra’s coaching has kept them in contention when other people have written them off entirely.

During his career, he has been named Coach of the Month multiple times, Coach of the Year by the NBCA, and has been cited as one of the greatest NBA leaders of all time.

Even though most experts don’t expect the Heat to reclaim the championship this year, they still think Spoelstra will be one of the greatest basketball minds in the world.
