The New York Jets needed to do something to salvage their season.
Woody Johnson clearly thought this team should’ve played better — which it should have– during the first five weeks of the campaign.
Robert Saleh entered the season on the hot seat and with a dismal record since he took the reins of the team, and with the roster they had given him, there was no more wiggle room for excuses.
Even so, not many analysts believe that firing Saleh gets them closer to their goal.
Notably, that includes Craig Carton.
Talking to Zach Gelb, the renowned pundit — and diehard Jets fan — stated that history might tell a lie, as he still believes the Jets will get Davante Adams and make the playoffs, and the narrative will be that it had to do with Saleh being fired.
“History is going to tell a lie because I still think the Jets are going to make the playoffs and the narrative is going to be it was Robert Saleh’s fault that they were 2-3 and that’s not going to be accurate.”-@craigcartonlive

Contrary to public speculation, Carton states that Saleh actually thinks the world of Rodgers and that Rodgers actually likes him and respects him.
Judging by the numbers and the eye test, Saleh didn’t do a good job in charge of the Jets.
It seemed as if he had lost the locker room, and the Jets didn’t want to waste any more time and put the season at risk.
As Carton pointed out, this has the makings of an owner’s rash decision.
And while Nathaniel Hackett might carry even more of the blame for the team’s shortcomings, someone had to pay.
