The Dallas Cowboys’ season had already taken on a pessimistic tone when they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8 to fall to 3-4 on the season, but it has now taken a sharp turn for the worse.
Quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a hamstring injury in the Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons and was expected to be sidelined for a few weeks.
However, Stephen Jones, the son of Jerry Jones and the team’s executive vice president, recently said Prescott will likely go on injured reserve and could require surgery, which would knock him out for an extended period.
“With his situation, it’s probably gonna be one that is gonna take a full four weeks before he could even think about making a return, if not longer. … At some point (the injury) could (require surgery). No one is recommending it now,” Stephen Jones said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @SASportsStar on QB Dak Prescott (hamstring): “More than likely, he’ll be on (injured reserve) by the end of the week. We’re just making sure we’re checking all the options.

When a player is placed on injured reserve, he must miss at least four games, but it is starting to look like Prescott will be out for more than that.
Through eight games, he has thrown for 1,978 yards, but he has just 11 touchdown passes and a 64.7 percent pass completion rate, and he has thrown eight interceptions.
Prescott’s play, and now his injury, are just two of the many problems the Cowboys have these days.
Their very top-heavy roster is also without cornerback DaRon Bland and pass rusher Micah Parsons, and they have massive problems stopping the run defensively and running the ball themselves on offense.
Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is playing well, but Dallas doesn’t have a real No. 2 threat at that position to take some of the load off of him.
It is starting to look very likely that “America’s Team” won’t take part in the playoffs this season.
